It’s not always easy to quickly close the gap and get students up to grade level. When you say she’s not doing well, are her grades low? Or is it her skills that concern you?

And how far below grade level are her skills?

Sara thank you for responding.

When I say that she is not doing well I mean that there are times she seems to understand and has grasp the concepts. She doesn’t seem to know how to sound out the words even though she knows the sounds of all the letters. The phonetics of letter sounds was something that I taught her well before she began school. So she is sonderful with the sounds, just can’t put it all together to get a complete work.

She she brings homes not so good interims and school work that says differently she is doing well with A’s and B’s and more often D’s. Her skills are also sometimes a concern. For instance she reads her numbers backwards 25 is 52 and 15 is 51. I have suggested to the school that dsylexia may be an issue. The school just say 04 and a learning disability. From what I have been told there should be a name attached to the learning disability not just quote “learning disability”. Can you give me some advise here? What strategies can I do at home with our child? I do not want hard feelings with the school. I know form expereince it can get pretty nasty and I don’t wan that to fall on my child.

The teacher sends home work for me to work with her. And that leads me to believe from my working with her for hours at home that at school she is not being instructed to the point of understanding? I don’t mean to imply thatthe teacher is not doing her job? But that is how it is form my point of view.
