biofeedback training?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello,

I’ve been researching interventions for myself and two sons. (2 of us have ADD and one has ADHD among other issues)

I have been looking into non-drug treatments and have considered Handle, Interactive Metronome, Balametrics, and lots of others.

I’ve recently been looking into BioFeedback Training.

Has anyone tried this or know of anyone who has?

Any positive or negative experiences?

THANKS in advance for your input!

You can find a discussion of some of the current research on neurofeedback at http://www.helpforadd.com/2003/october.htm

If your son truly has an EEG profile consistent with ADHD, then neurofeedback may be a good treatment choice. My son did neurofeedback for over a year to address a variety of learning disabilities and an early brain injury. It did not help solve his impulsive behavior. His EEG was not typical of ADHD. I know several psychologists who are seeing good results treating ADHD with neurofeedback. I believe the anecdotal reports I have heard from them.

Currently my son is seeing a Handle practitioner and on a home exercise program. I think they have a broad view of neurological problems and excellent assessment tools. If you live near a Handle practice, you and your son might benefit from their expertise. It might be easier and cheaper in the long run to do their home exercises than to go to neurofeedback sessions.
