test results still not back

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My child had a neuropsych exam done in Nov and early Dec.We have received a bill but still have not gotten a written report. We talked to the neuro when he went for extra testing in Dec. but she didn’t give me any literature etc at the time. I asked her if she would be sending a report and if she would be giving me specific things I could do at home and for SATs etc. When should I expect to hear? I have called her office twice and they keep saying they will give her the message. What do ya’ll think? Thanks, Jan

You definitely want the scores and they should be able to fax them to you today. Neuropsychs often lag well behind on the reports but they do have the scores and should give them to you for the asking. If they sent them to you promptly, I might consider paying part of the bill, making clear you will send the rest once you receive the full report. If they don’t send the scores, I definitely wouldn’t pay a penny and would make it clear that you won’t until you receive them. Neuropsych reports vary a great deal—the one we received was worth very little, but the scores were definitely valuable—particularly when you can run things that puzzle you past people on this board. Also, has she met with you or is she planning to do so to discuss results? You definitely want to see the scores before meeting with her. This gives you time to digest them and decide which areas you want to home in on with her, allowing you to get the most out of the meeting.

I’m sorry, but I think anything beyond 30 days is excessive. I would call and tell them that it is urgent that you receive the scores and report for educational purposes.

I’d be calling every day and saying “do you know when she will get the message?’ and also aksing for the scores if the report isn’t done. And indeed, I woudl send back the bill and say “service has not been rendered; payment will be remitted promptly, when service I paid for has been done. Thank you for your time.”

Agree that the sevice has not been completed and no payment should be given until results and report are received. CAUTION to all on these boards who insist more testing is the answer….insist on a meeting with the evaluator where you will receive the scores in hand and an explanation of the results; often neuropsych. reports are very technical and may NOT relate to the questions you asked in the first place.

Excellent advice! Parents rarely understand all that is in these reports and definitely deserve a face-to-face meeting for explanation!

Thank each of you for your response! I have paid $45 in Dec and Jan but the bill is $1300. I esp like the comment about not paying since services have not been rendered!! I think that is what I will do when I get the Feb. bill! She did meet with me and go over some of the findings but did not go over any scores. She only gave her opinon about what she thinks he might need as far as accomodations. This was very lengthy and I can’t even remember half of it. I asked her if she would be giving me hardcopy of all this and she said,”Of course!”. I will try again today to reach her. Thanks again. Jan
