can we observe a wilson session?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi,

We are two moms serving as aides at our sons’ school. The school uses Wilson, but the teachers are new to it and very busy. One of us attended the first round of wilson training and the other viewed all the wilson videotapes at the school. We’d like to find an active, Wilson-trained tutor that we could pay to observe either a real or a mock wilson session in action before we inflict ourselves on the children. We live in Central Florida, but are willing to travel pretty much from Jacksonville to Palm Beach if necessary.

I would love to help you, but I live in Connecticut! If you don’t get any responses, try calling their office in MA and asking if they can refer you to anyone in your part of Florida, or simply e-mail them. They did respond when I did that last year.

Good luck!

Guestmoms,

Have you found a local Wison specialist? My son’e RSP uses Wilson. She’s going on maternity leave soon and I want to find a Wilson provider to keep things on track for the reswt of the school year and summer. I’m in Los Angeles and can’t find ANYONE. I even contacted Wilson traing directly.

Contact the FL International Dyslexia Association—I got the name of someone in Palm Beach who knows LMB and Wilson from them. She did some evaluations for us but was too far from us for tutoring.

Hi Amy,
You may have some luck by contacting Westmark School in Encino or contacting some other similar schools. I can’t think of the names of the other schools right now, but if you’re interested I can look them up. Oftentimes these schools have teachers who also tutor part-time and you may be able to find someone trained in Wilson.

Thanks Laura. The nearest special school to me is Summit View. I’ll give them a call.

Amy,
If Summit doesn’t have anyone, try Westmark anyway. You never know who may have a teacher that lives nearby and might offer tutoring afterschool. I’ve visited both Summit View and Westmark, I don’t think either use Wilson as their curriculum, but they may have someone trained in it or know of someone. I know Westmark uses LMB.

Another idea is to try getting an issue of LA Parent Magazine and calling learning centers and other special needs schools advertising in there to see if they have anyone trained in Wilson.
