Hello,
I have been diagnosed with LD and ADD. I had no problems with school in elementary school…I loved goign to school! In junior high i still loved going to school, but only for the social part of it…not for the acedmenics. Senior high was the same as junior…I was great in math but failing social studies and english (the courses with a lot of reading). University has been a stuggle but I am finally almots finished. I head that you have to have the “symptoms” in elementary school for it to be a LD or ADD…was i diagnosed improperly?

ADHD / Biploar Missdiagnoses
I am 46 and after 40 of those years I finally got my answer that I have ADHD for sure. A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Bipolar and that was the most aweful time because nothing worked and everything got worse and my marriage was just about to end until I got busy with what brain I had left to think with and compare the two. My doctor “thank God” left town and the other one right away saw the ADHD and then a counslor at my church saw it right away when I told him that I had been earlier diagnosed with Bipolar. He told me he didn’t see any of that, but he sure saw ADHD. So after the first doctor left I was put on Aderall and words fall from my brain like snow and come out my mouth without any help from others. I know now the big differences between Bipolar and ADHD that I should have been asked. I am living a life I have never had. To mark the occasion God let me see an empty hamster wheel on our counslors desk at church. I came unglued. How many times I had told countless doctors and friends about the hamster in the wheel going faster and faster in my brain. When I saw the wheel sitting there still I could hear God saying,” It’s over my child you have your answer and the truth. My counslor at the clinic where I go is not supporting the diagnoses even though the “new” doctor there made the discovery. She still stands by the fact that she believes I have Bipolar and I do not or the Aderall would not work. I have never had any problems sleeping except for panic and that goes with Bipolar. By moods have a reason and Bipolar may or may not. Hang in there folks. Prayer ended up being my answer as always. God Bless You, Dereise……..
You don’t have to have the symptoms in elementary school - some do, some don’t. That you didn’t experience any problems in elementary school doesn’t mean you don’t have learning differences.
