Anyone using Jolly Phonics?
Also, does anyone have a list of programs that meet NRP criterion?
Re: Jolly Phonics
Hi Sam, I use Jolly phonics in reception class (age 4-5) in a UK school. It is a brilliant programme. It is fun to use, the children love it, and they learn very quickly. I am in a main stream school (not special needs). It is relatively inexpensive to use and has a whole range of resources in the one handbook, which costs around 20 pound sterling.
If you want information on what works for teaching children to read, (and what doesn’t work) have a look at the Reading Reform Foundation website www.rrf.org.uk/index.htm
I recently bought The Phonics Handbook. I think it looks good for a kindergarten program. I haven’t seen a list of “approved” programs. I do know there are some British people familiar with JP on a yahoo group named readbygrade3. That’s where I learned about it.
Are you looking for a regular ed, first-time instruction program or a remedial program?
