Anyone used Play Attention?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Has anyone used the home neurofeedback system called Play Attention to improve attention? I’m interested in hearing your results, and if they were lasting results?

I haven’t used it, but I did get the free CD. I read some research posted by a Dr. that has a news letter partially funded by Play Attention. While the results were promising, this Dr even thought that the research raised more quesitons than anything, and kids that were successful with play attention still required meds, but were reported to have been able to decrease them. I’ve been looking for more information, but have come up empty so far. I am also looking into Dore Centers. I recently read an online webcast done earlier this month with Ned Hallowell endorsing this treatment for ADHD. They not only are reporting success, but even hedging on it being a cure. I also talked to an OT that I work with. She was telling me how Sensory Integration therapy seems to be holding much promise. I can remember not that long ago when SI therapy was comsidered VooDoo, like less than 10 years ago, but it seems that it is gaining respect. I hope someone with experience answers your post. I think that these are the most exciting two areas that ADHD treatment is going in lately. It’s just not fast enough for me!!

You can go to their website at www.playattention.com and there is a link to request a free CD. I requested one, but haven’t received it yet. I am comfortable with trying an unproven therapy as long as there are no risks involved. I have been considering EEG biofeedback for several years, and the idea of doing it at home appeals to me.

Roxie, SI therapy was a big help to us. And we still use the techniques to help our child calm down and organize himself when he is wired up. I don’t view these things as cures, but as pieces of a large puzzle. There are days when I’d be happy with a 10% improvement, so I’m ok without a guarentee that something will work. I am interested in finding someone who has used Play Attention, and finding out how their child accepted it, if they were motivated to use it, etc. Hopefully there is a play attention user out there!
