Hi all,
I am very peripherally involved with a newly forming support group for parents of children with disabilities in my county. They asked me to come because I seem to be able to rattle off information and send them to good places to look for more information.
Many of these moms are computer illiterate, or only have access to computers in public places, such as the library. I’m trying to make their task of researching and advocating for their child easier.
I am considering putting together a notebook with information about various disabilities/disorders. For each listed disorder, the notebook will include a fact sheet, a symptoms sheet, a list of links to find more information, a list of books, and perhaps a list of various intervention techniques with links to that information. I’d also like to have a section on advocacy, the IDEA, and Section 504 - perhaps with our state regs and local regs.
I will not give opinions, and will stay very factual. I know I will never be able to include all the information about all the disabilities, but I intend this to be a dynamic document - where parents can add information they have found useful.
Does something like this already exist? Am I reinventing the wheel here?
Thanks,
Lil
Here’s hoping you put it online!
