Sorta O/T....

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone else feel like I do:

a- down on myself that if I was a better fighter/ communicator that
my child would have more services to address his unique issues?

b- completley frustrated with alot of inexperienced or unmotivated
special ed personnel in the SD , so that even when I get the services
i feel again that I have failed my child.

MAybe im just feeling sorry for myself but im just so frustrated
and down on myself when really im doing the best job i can..

Private school is not an option and we are doing some private
SI OT and private speech.

Some days it just seems like such a heavy burden to carry. Im always
thinking “Am i doing enough to help my child?”

Thanks for reading…

I think even the best advocates/communicators cannot make the school do what they want them to do. I think if we just try, speak up, stay unemotional when communicating, stay matter-of-fact, know the laws, keep a paper trail, we are doing what we can do. Even the professional advocates can’t always get what they want to accomplish.

I don’t think the schools are cut out to help our kids. It’s just too expensive to do it properly. Knowing that, we can only do what we can do. Keep the home life positive. Continue with anything you can afford and stay on the school. That’s all we can do.

I think we are going to end up with a major shift in education. NCLB will take us there. It won’t be in the way Bush thinks though.

Welp… yea, you have to feel that there should be something you should be doing htat can make things better — thigns are better for some people, after all.
But you can only do the best you can do (and, by the way, it’s usually the people worrying the most about it who are doing really well, just not from their inner perspective). So… sometimes you have to think outside of the schoolbox and be creative in finding ways to reduce the harm being done in whatever ways possible.
