Does anyone have any experience with Lexia reading software - for example, Strategies for Older Students (SOS) or their Comprehensive Reading Assessment software? What are your thoughts? I’m looking for any feedback.
Re: Lexia Software
I’ve used it some and it does the best job of software I’ve used for supporting phonics-based reading instruction (and isn’t childish). Still not as good as a teacher of course :-)
I just bought it for my child. We went thru the first level and I felt we still needed practice on it so I used up another to practice on and we turned off the automatic branching so she wouldn’t progress. You are able to only have 3 people on the program for the family version. It is giving her practice on the skills she needs to work on- differentiating b & d and hearing the short vowel sound.I found out today that she figured out the context stories -if she picked the wrong word it would give a list of words to choose the correct word, but unfortunately it would give the words in order of the story so she figured out the rest of the words that would fill in the blanks. We have only been doing it a couple of weeks but seems good for practice in areas she needs and shows what areas she needs to work on. I feel that I need to sit next to her to make sure she is working on it but she seems to enjoy it so far.
