Spec Ed District info

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

How can I find out about how “well” a school district will address my child’s needs? I really want to know if there are districts that are easier to communicate with, more amenable to providing services, etc… I want to move into another town, and this will need to be a consideration.. I don’t know any parents in the prospective districts.

Thanks

I would attempt to see if there is a local Learning Disabilities Association (or whatever organization is appropriate for your child’s needs) or advocacy organization that can hook you up with parents who can give you that information. But it goes beyond the district…you must find out about specific schools: find out special ed. teacher training, programs offered, and then visit the school to get a feel for the climate.
