LD awareness in General Ed.

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m a special educator who has been asked by a parent and a principal to inservice several fifth grade classes on Learning Disorders.

Is there any advice/guidance/direction that you can give me?

I remember a long, long, time ago, in my undergrad days, participating in various activities that helped one perceive what it is like to function with a disability. I just can’t remember what those activities were!! Besides having the students participate in some of these activities, I also need help on how to guide the discussion and dissemination of information.

THank you!

I strongly recommend the video, “Fat City” as a good starting place and you may even replicate some of the activites in the video. Good Luck!

I also suggest the Fat City video. It is easy to find documents/activities online that are similar to the ones in the video as well.

Good luck!
