One of my friends asked me about the DRA and the Gates. What do you think of these tests? She was wondering if they inflate scores. Her son is very bright, in third grade, doing well with the Wilson but she still sees fluency as an issue.

I’m sorry, but the DRA scores are simply not reliable. You need the Gray Oral Reading Test for fluency.
DRA is often used in whole language programs. For a personal example, my child was tested at the end of first grade with the DRA and I was told she was scoring into the second grade level. Unfortunately, I knew better since I teach LD, and I had her tested at Lindamood Bell. Her fluency score was under the 10th%ile!!!!
