Does anyone know of good software for developing critical thinking skills? Or, teaching programs that help improve these areas. I’ve been doing V/V with the child I have in mind, but visualizing is extremely difficult for him.
Re: Critical Thinking Software?
Zoombinis Logical Journey is excellent! I think there are a couple of versions of this now.
For younger children, all of the Putt Putt and Freddi Fish software titles are good.
Other possibilities are ClueFinders and Nancy Drew series, and I’m sure there are others. Check out Amazon top sellers for ideas.
Older editions of the above can be found online at discount software houses for around $10. One discounting source is http://www.software-blowouts.com but there are others. Sometimes they even have free software — all you have to do is put the freebies in your cart. Usually these are sold without box packaging, sometimes without jewel cases and sometimes without those little instruction manuals that come in the case.
I have found the Critical Thinking books to be excellent for the most part, and their software to be lacking for the most part. If at all possible, try to use their software before buying (perhaps libraries have it?). Much of it is very boring and it seems always over-priced.

Here’s an even cheaper online store for software: http://store.yahoo.com/5dollarsoftware/index.html

Re: Critical Thinking Software?
Thanks Nancy for clarifying that the Critical Thinking books are better than the software. I have only seen the books, so I am glad to know about the software not being as good.

mmm,
I’ve been looking at some things by the Critical Thinking Company. Perhaps you might want to take a look at the site:
