If you’re looking for a spelling program, (pardon the plug, but I seriously think this program will help.) check out Looking Glass Spelling. It’s on the website for G. Whiz Educational Resources at www.gwhizresources.com E-mail me if you have any questions.

Might also look into AVCO spelling, has had a lot of discussion on this list so you might do a little search.

Also there is a new program that I bought from Sopris West called Spellography, I think it is for somewhat older kids (3-6 grade). Very cute, kid friendly, reasonable (except that you need to buy five copies of each book). Though I’d sell you one of book 1, at a loss (to me). Includes phonemic awareness and orthography which is pretty good.

Both of them basically follow a OG framework as to what is introduced first, etc.

The website for Sequential Spelling from Avko is http://www.avko.org

In my opinion it’s best used with students who are reading on at least an ending 3rd grade level. If they haven’t gotten that far, the time is better spent on reading instruction.
