Ok, another problem area is writing. Learning support only had 2 papers to show me , when I asked to see the writing my child has done with her. One was the original and a second was the final version. It was about 5 sentences in length….So, I am thinking what I want them to do is have my daughter write a book report after she has read a book. The 6th grade classes have forms that they want the kids to fill in, but I am thinking I would rather have her write it. That way, she will get needed practice in writing paragraphs and there is a subject that she won’t have to bring up out of thin air. Any ideas for an easy formula that she could use?
Re: need help writing paragraphs
For a book report I would also suggest that right from the start you teach her how to take notes as she is reading. The notes can fit in topics Setting, Characters, Plot and can just be bullet statements or phrases that include the page number that information was found on. Then when she goes to write about a character or event she knows where to look to refresh her memory.
I’d suggest you teach her how to write a basic five-paragraph essay. While it doesn’t guarantee great writing, it does provide a framework for students who don’t know where to start when writing a paper for school. The link below gives a good explanation along with some prompts that you might want to use.
