Well my son (12) was started on Metadate 5 days ago and OCD symptoms have started up already. He was taken off stimulants 2 yrs. ago because of OCD from Concerta. I will have to talk to the doctor tomorrow and have already stopped the Metadate. He is also on Strattera and Imipramine.I had such hopes that the Metadate would help with ADHD symptoms but we can’t go thru what we did 2 yrs. ago. He told me yesterday that he was feeling strange and didn’t want to take the Metadate anymore. He said he felt compelled to ride his bike back and forth (a 2 mile ride) until he almost collapsed. It was 94 degrees and very humid. I had to make him stop and rest and drink gatorade. Taking the imiprimine also makes you more sensitive to heat and sun. I was afraid he was going to have a heat stroke! Oh well, I guess the dr. will try him on yet another drug. I’m just about ready to throw in the towel. Jan

Thanks for asking. Today he was better and 2 friends and I played board games all afternoon. That seemed to cheer him up and focus him on something else. I appreciate your concern. Jan

Sorry to hear about the re-emergence of OCD. I do think you were wise to take him off the methadate, as OCD can be so hard for the child (and parent) to deal with so it’s best not to take chances. You may want to take a look at the message I just posted on the thread “New dx—PDD” where I pasted a passage from Dr. Amen’s site about the interaction of ADD, OCD, tics and stimulant and serotonin medications.

I would have to question why the doctor put him on metadate when he already had problems on Concerta. They are both methylphenidate.
