The Parents Legal Rights

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have “another” meeting at the High School today for my 17 year old son. It seems that the school decides they want a meeting after he has failed a class. I have asked for study guides to help him with finals, extra credit to help him with his grades, etc. No matter what I’ve asked for I have not been given this. I feel that if I am offering to do whatever it takes to help him I should receive some help from the school. My question is what are my legal rights? What does the school have to do to help my son? He does have ADHD and we have had the IEP since he was in 5th grade but the teachers follow it for a while then get off track and will not follow up with me as to his progress until he fails a class.

The IEP is a legally binding document. They HAVE to abide by this or they (district and the teacher(s) can be sued and have been sued (and have lost by the way). In turning having to pay damages for their failure to implement it.
