You might consider it the other way around, though, the Psych first.

Of course, it will be the actual field experience that will be most beneficial, so you’ll want to pick courses and internships, etc. that get you working with good diagnosticians. Basically the education stuff is at least half fairly worthless, but necessary to allow you to be in the presence of people who know what they are doing. The tricky part is figuring out who those people are :)

Isn’t there a field called psychometrics?

For example, get a bachelor’s degree in education with emphasis in special ed and then get your Masters in psychometrics.

I think the undergrad special ed. major (with psych minor possibly) and then an educational psychology master’s sounds good. You could major in psychology as an undergrad degree, I suppose, but you have to have the master’s in ed. psych to do testing like the WISC.
