We are out of here!

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Things are so crazy here! BUT, on Saturday we are leaving for the summer! We will be in the Acadia area for a week and then we will be going into the mountains and spending the summer camping on a lake! It is exactly what we need! I am looking forward to having the summer with my kids and my kids being able to concentrate on just being kids! We need the break from academics and school issues! My hope is that adhd will be less of an issue without the school stress. Although we all know it affects all aspects of life it is a much more relaxing environment. I’m also really curious to see if it’s a different or better experience for my younger child as neither child was diagnosed until this past school year!

Have a great vacation Jen!! I’m so jealous. This year we aren’t able to take a vacation, we are going to try to get away for a few days when we take our oldest to college (for the first time!)

Hi all! Just wanted to tell everybody we are back! We are refreshed, relaxed and hopefully ready for another school year! It might be wishful thinking but maybe all of the fighting with the district is over and we can have a good year for both adhd girls!

Unfortunately we did have a rough start to the summer. The younger child had some tantrums that really scared me—hitting herself, pulling her own hair, scratching, etc. Things got straightened out and the rest of the summer was much better. She just had a medication switch this week and I hope it’s a good one. Anxiety is still a major issue and does need to be addressed. She actually had some panic attacks this summer. However, the doctor wanted to try a switch in adhd meds first.

My older child had a great summer! She got to work on the camp pontoon boat helping with transporting people and their camping gear out to remote wilderness sites. She also helped in the store bagging ice and doing other odds and ends. I was very proud of her and really glad she had those kinds of experiences! Perfect for building confidence and awesome memories for her!

Looking forward to reading all of the threads I missed over the summer!
