Help! Can't get a formal diagnosis

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello,
I’m so frustrated I just don’t know what to do. I have become seriously depressed over this issue. I quit high school, got my ged and have been trying to go to college since 1991-unsuccsessfully, i might add. Very unsucessfull. Anyway, I have been working with the dept. of rehab. and i’ve requested testing 3 times over a span of 8yrs. the first two times they sent me to a regular psychologist who administered a bunch of personality tests! this last time, they sent me to a neuropsychologist and still no formal dx of ld although there is a 25ptpercentile discrepancy between my verbal IQ and performance1q. writing is so hard for me , but i did make an excel spreadsheet with my scored and corresponding graphs-if anyone could take a look at this i would be so greatful, more than greatful. please, please please
here is my email: [email protected]
thank you so much

I know it would be so great to be able to tell people “I HAVE THIS!” but don’t hold your breath. I’m also struggling with the same thing. SOme people are just really different. You are blessed to be documented at all!!!
HOpe you will find peace. If not….I’m sure you’ll really make a difference in the world. Stay adamant!! I’m sure someone out there can explain it to you. But even then….thats one person and you may always wonder why no two doctors agree. See, when we have a sinus infection, we can be sure that ten doctors would also think the same but with matters of the brain you won’t find that. Don’t dispair, doctors are learning more and more about the brain everyday. It’s still a mystery!!! Somewhere someone is holding a test tube just for you kcomeau !!!!

Can you find a community college that has an LD department? Some colleges are developing good support systems for LD students, including testing, assistive technology, buddy systems, etc. Not all 4-year colleges and community colleges have this, but all you need to find is one…..

Also, you may want to join the dysgraphia list at http://groups.yahoo.com.
