Hello.

I haven’t logged onto this site for quite a while, and noticed the format has changed, including having the link to get onto the board way on the bottom.

Is it my imagination, or are less people using this board? (It seems like the board was a lot more active a year or so ago…) There are very few posts per day.

Hi,

I don’t know if there are fewer. There are some people who I haven’t seen since the change. I don’t exactly know why, as the format is not
really that difficult. I think it is a bit more similar to other forums (non-ld)
that I am on. I don’t care for the smilies and don’t use all the features but you don’t have to use them. But perhaps they are a bit more intimating.

There was a huge drop in usage last year with the troll problem and the change in format. (Remember I’m a numbers person, and I count posts …) Too many hassles at once for some people. And there are a few who really resist signing in to anything and don’t realize how the guest feature works.
However usage has come back up this past couple of months and I expect it to get realy high again in September when most people start back to school.

PS: At first with the new board I just cruised my usual pages and looked for recent posts as I had always done. This was sometimes difficult with the new format because I had to memorize date and time of my last visit to find out what was new and what wasn’t, and I found the board slow and tiring.
Then the new board had a bad problem with the sign-up system. However I found once they fixed the glitches, by signing in (even easier with the auto-login feature on this board, cannot be used on a shared computer but good for a home one) I can use the “View posts since last visit” feature, and it is very helpful. Other people figuring out how to navigate the system seem to be picking up on how to be more efficient too. A few months ago I would find perhaps eight new posts per day and now it’s back up around twenty-two, probably will hit over fifty again in fall.

I was one who stopped using this board when it was reformatted. I signed up and everything, but when I tried to respond to a post, I got an error message - over and over. Course, it was aggravating since I typed some response only to have it wasted. I tried to sign up again, but it thinks I already have an account. I do, I just can’t get it to work. Now, I wouldn’t even know what my user id and password were. So, I stopped coming by so much. Then, later, I lurked a bit and discovered I could respond as a guest. But it’s not the same as people knowing who I am.

The board just moves so slow that I can check it a couple times per week. Scwablearning moves faster and I check that one several times a day. I also check conductdisorders every day, as it moves fast, too.

Guest — if you signed your name, we’d know who you are.
Now that the glitches are better, contact the board moderators — use the private message PM feature after clicking the first message at the top of the board — and they’ll be able to re-register you.

I think this board is far better organized now. I can check only the subject headings which interest me…and that totals about 4 of them. The Schwab board is a mass of disorganization. There can be hundreds of new posts a day and you have to skim through them all to find ones of interest. I went on there a few times but l think this was and still is the very best LD board!

I remain a ‘guest’, for the same reason as Lora — but if you sign your name under USERNAME, it still logs you as guest but your posts are more easily identified…gets hard to track the guests!

I also find the schwab site unusable…WAY too slow! But I did see a post from socks over there a week or so ago when I decided to try it, and she AS USUAL made me cry at work (good crying — socks is still saving babies from being considered ‘wordless’ by a world that has not nearly her excellence in brains or heart, on average!)

Welcome back, Lora!

I, too, could not post for so long - continually getting error messages, until I gave up. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending 30 or so minutes formulating a thought out post and having it then refused. Eventually, even the most persistent of us, give up and go elsewhere. The posts in the other forums remain substantively down. Perhaps, now that it seems to be working smoothly again, this site will be the leader it once was. Ken C

It’s been a long two years - first a concussion (a body surfing accident) and then back/neck surgery. Things are going well, I’ll hit the road this fall and spring - Pennsylvania, New York, and then a lot of Florida things. I’ve spent a lot of time in the past year looking at the relationship between language development (infant) and poor academics. Ken C

So you are feeling better? I am working as an SLP in the public schools, it is a lot of work but also very fun. I am so glad you are feeling better, neck pain is the worst. So far I have avoided surgery…glad to hear it went well with you.
