Does anyone have experience (direct or indirect) in filing a complaint with Dept. of Educ./Office of Civil Rights for a potential ADA violation? I am considering taking this step with my son’s college and filing a complaint on his behelf. My son has used all formal steps within the college to resolve the issue and still has not had satisfactory resolution to the problem. Essentially, he was given an inaccurate grade in a math class that the professor admitted was based on my son’s disclosure of his learning disability. (The situation is quite involved, but trust me when I say he did not receive “equal treatment” or “access” in the class.)
I know from past professional experience that filing a complaint with any federal agency is time consuming and a test of patience. However, I feel strongly that the college has acted in a discrminatory manner with my son and I struggle with not taking the issue to the next level.
Any guidance, feedback or thougts would be appreciated. After so many years of special education services in a wonderful public school system, I couldn’t have imagined the challenge that this has presented my son. I guess the struggle continues, just in a new setting.

Make sure you have documentation that you spoke with
( in order) 1) the professor involved; 2) That professors
Department Chairperson 3) The Dean of the College involved with
the Math class. If you are concerned, they have to write a memo
confirming what they told your son. Can’t he re-take the class; even
with a different professor???
I understand why you feel so strongly about your son’s mistreatment. This is a large nut to crack and I would certainly advise talking to an attorney before you do anything else.
