I found this site and message board while doing research to educate myself before going to a parent/teacher conference about my daughter who was recently diagnosed as LD. This place is wonderful! I thought I was the only one with these problems. I was diagnosed as ADD/ADHD as a child but didn’t continue with medication after I left elementary school. I didn’t like being “different” having to go to the nurse’s station for meds at school, besides, I was supposed to outgrow it by the time I hit junior high, right? I suffered in silence for more than 20 years. Several years ago I finally asked my doctor for help after reading an article an adult man wrote about his life with ADD. It was like jumping into icy water! I could relate to everything he said! I take Adderall XR 20mg each morning and in the beginning I really noticed a difference. Now my husband says that most of the time he can’t tell if I’ve taken it or not. I can’t tell either except that I have no appetite (I’ve lost 30 lbs since February). In addition to the ADD I am also a rapid cycling Bipolar and I have panic attacks at the slightest change in my own perceived itinerary or feelings of stress-real or imagined. I take lithium when I’m manic , Xanax if I feel a panic attack on the horizon, and Wellbutrin all the time. I also take valium at bedtime, otherwise I don’t sleep.
Am I the only one who has other problems besides ADD? I’d sure love to know that I’m not alone.
