Getting a Master's Degree in Counseling College Students

:?: I want to know if someone with a learning disability such as the one I have with Math can get into a Graduate Program to either get a Certificate for Academic Counseling or the Degree and bypass the math questions on the Graduate Tests such as the GRE or the Miller Analogies Test?

I love being in the school environment and since I first got my B.A. Degree from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri 21 years ago I
have not stopped taking classes.

I have gone to some local community colleges and have recieved certificates in Sales Development Management, and Materials Logistics Management and I am currently working on my Library Technical Assistant Certificate which I hope I will get next Summer.

I still love being in Sales also with my home-based business and would never give up on that for anything.

I would like to find a way to combine my two loves. School and Selling.

I was diagnosed 3 years ago, have 2 masters and am now in a phd program I was a college counselor for many years. so yes you can do it. you can apply for extended time but not math waivers I think for the gre. I chose programs that didn’t require exam. but I did have to finally take gre for phd. My math score was low but didn’t hold me back. I’m in a social work program. get help in preparing for the math. Also I’m studying LD in adults who were not dx as kids. I’d be interested in talking to you further. Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel. I have taken the GRE and the GMAT and scored extremely low on the math. I don’t know if there is any way around these tests. I have desperatley wanted to attend graduate school for a few years now and these tests are like brick walls blocking me from my passions. I don’t know if I have LD in math or just missed out on the basics in high school but I’m afraid I may never be able to go to grad school because of my problem. I’ve had advisors tell me to express my difficulties with testing and math in my personal statement, that way the admissions board can consider my challenges. So far I’ve been so disgusted with my scores I haven’t had the nerve to apply. I’d love to learn if there is any way to get around these tests.
