Looking for a school

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son is 15 and is finish at a school in Virginia. I am divorced and am going to move to an area on the East Coast where there is a really good school. What expierences have people had with the following schools.

The Gow School
The Forman School
Landmark School
The New Community School-Richmond, Va.
Kildonan School
Riverview School
The Lab School
Rocky Mountain Academy
and I’ve just heard of a Pine Ridge School-I think in New York or Vermont

I taught at the New Community School — it’s excellent. Of course, no school is excellent for everybody, but if I had a high schooler with LD, I’d move to Richmond if I could.

I’ve worked (professionally, as a vocational counselor and evaluator) with many graduates of The New Community School and would also recommend it.

John…just down the street in Richmond

Also read Sally Smith’s “No Easy Answers” (circa ??). She describes the Lab School in depth. You might seek out that book. It sounds great.

Somehow or other I have come up with three copies of “No Easy Answers” on my bookshelf. I believe this book came out in the 1970’s and no doubt the program has changed a bit since then, but it still has lots of good ideas in it. Two of thecopies are available to the first two requests, for the price of postage (mail me two bucks.) Email request to [email protected]
