More hyper/unfocused on Adderall ???

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Day 3 of 5mgs and she is so unfocused/impulsive/hyper. She just rang a neighbors doorbell and ran away, this is something she would never do off of dexadrine, never mind on meds!!! Is this normal, shouldn’t I see results by now, does this ed take time to kick in??? I’m getting nervous by upping her dose to 10mgs on sunday. Just looking for experience, I am waiting for her dr to call.

Just curious and sorry if you mentioned it already. Why did the dr make the switch to adderall? It does sound like too low of a dose. My daughter was recently switched to adderall from concerta. She takes 20mg of adderall. The dr made the switch because she needed an increase in the concerta and she was concerned that increasing it further would start to affect her anxiety. Her thought was a smaller dose of adderall may do the same as the higher dose of Concerta. It seems to be doing the trick but we did have to increase it almost right away. It could be that your dr is starting on the lowest dose and will work up from there to find what works.

on a low dose is what we are doing, she was taking 10 mgs of dexedrine twice daily but I wanted to try a longer lasting med. I am just curious to know if this is normal, with increased hyper/unfocused behavior and if increasing it will make things worse? or does it take time to take effect? We are supposed to start 10 mgs after 5 days.

It would probably help but then again if you call your doctor that would probably be best. It sounds like uncontrolled adhd behavior but anything is possible.
