My son turned 3 at the end of September. He has SID. He understands what the potty is for. Some days he won’t have any accidents. Other days he’ll have six! We say and sign potty to him and ask him continually. Sometimes he emphatically says no and would act traumatized if I try to force him into the bathroom and yet three minutes later announce “Potty!” with wet pants. His former OT—we recently moved and now do not have home therapy—suggested Picture Exchange, but it never caught on. He’ll use them to ask for other things, but never potty. I tried a special book that he gets to read only on the potty, but now he doesn’t care about that either. Does anyone have any other suggestions? The SID is tiring by itself, but when you factor in Potty Training and my two other (normal) children’s needs, I’m exhausted!
There was quite a long discussion about potty training (I think the child in question was 4) on parenting bb a few months back. You might look through the index and see if you can find it.
