:) Seeking Parents of Children with Learning Disabilities :)
I am the mother of a ten (10) year old daughter who has a learning disability. Raising and living with her has been a real challenge. Over the past few years intense research on teaching children with learning disabilities has been focused upon; however learning disabilities are still poorly understood by the general public and the families they impact. I am a graduate student at Pacific Oaks College and need your help.
I am looking for families in the USA with children that have a diagnosed learning disability. If you choose to volunteer, you will have the choice to participate in an interview at your home (depending upon location), over the telephone or in writing, depending on what is most comfortable for you. In the end, I will share my research information with you, in hopes that it will help support your family.
The information you provide will help to better understand the experiences families have from raising a child with learning disabilities. The information collected will be referred to by using a pretend name to ensure anonymity. The confidentiality of the records will be maintained to the fullest extent possible.
If you interested in participating please send a reply on this web site or contact me at [email protected].
Thank you for your time and support!

To Barb and Sue
Hi Barb and Sue,
Thank you for responding to my note. I really appriciate it. I just discovered this site a few weeks ago and wish I would of found it years ago. What a great support system for parents with children that have learning disabilities. I am a graduate student attending Pacific Oaks College and am in the process of writing a thesis. My thesis topic is as follows:
This thesis explores the impact a child with learning disabilities (LD) has on family life and how family relationships are challenged because of it. It will address the topic of how the family can best encourage and support the child with LD’s, the issue of understanding the development of the child and his/her LD, and the factors that affect sibling relationships.
If you choose to participate, I will share the outcome of my research with you in hopes that it will help provide support for you and your family. If you would like more information in regards to what being a participant involves please drop me a note via the e-mail and I will send you the Consent to Participate form, Demographic Survey and the actual interview questions. This gives more detail of what is involved.
Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hi, Kathy.
You don’t seem to be a student as you don’t mention that and your e-mail address isn’t an education one. How will you be using the data you collect? Are you doing this for personal information, to write a book, or?
Thanks,
Barb
