Hello I am 28 and have a learning disability. I go to college at mt. sierra and going for my B.A. Today in art history my professor put me on the spot. He seemed like he was grilling me. Class is usually over at 1.00 pm, but I leave at 12 because my blood sugar gets low. Well, my freind was playing around and yelling, “Lea why are you leaving?” Everyone knows that I hate being center of attention so I of course turned red. Well he started saying stuff about not leaving till 12:15, but I think he was joking with me. Then I had my stuff all packed up and I was talking to my freind and another one of my friends was leaving and she said good bye and he said, “see she got all her work done, so what do you got done?” I told him I was done. I dont know maybe I am really sensitive or something. I feel like he was putting me down. Theres more to the story, but I am so sad right now I dont feel like typing anymore.
Teachers sometimes get this crazy idea that if they embarrass us, we’ll work harder to prevent the embarrassment. I’m sure it works for some people. The professor probably has no idea whatever happened has this much effect on you (though I don’t know the person at all!) If hte dude is an arrogant twerd who thinks you’re a hypochondriac who deserves to be harrassed, then s/he’s a twerd you shouldn’t give the satisfaction of getting upset over, but prove the twerd wrong and do disgustingly well (or do well enough to get what *you* need from the course, even if you can’t have the satisfaction of rubbing success in the dust you shake from your heels).
