HomeSchooling with ADHD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi!

Our son is in 3rd grade and is home schooled. He is doing VERY well in all subjects except for his reading. He can’t seem to get beyong the phonetics and blends. What can we do? Is there any good resouces? My Wife is going nuts because she’s tried everything this past 6 months.

Thanks!

Not too long ago someone on this message board recommended to me Reading Reflex it’s a book which has activities in it and I am doing that with my son who is also having reading problems. My sister, who is a reading specialist, looked at the book tells me that the activities in it are very good and to keep doing them. I have seen some improvement in his reading but it’s hard to get him on task. I think as we progress through the more challenging activities we should see him improve more. Try it.

I too am trying all I can. I don’t have the money to spend on elaborate programs so this book was an alternative. From what I have heard it does work but you have to follow it. After reading the introduction of the book it all made sense to me. So, we’re trying-what do we have to lose??

My sis says that repetition of words is a must and books that are on his level is a great must. Hope I helped and good luck! : )
