math alternative

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Still having problems with 8th grade math and my son.

At our last IEP meeting it was stated by math teacher that he couldn’t slow down for just one kid, the sp.ed teacher believes he is too advanced for her class. I let this go at the time but I am aware of the fact that since my son is floundering in reg. math despite many accommodations, we are not using an
INDIVIDUALIZED program as far as math. We have a tutor but she can’t help with the tests.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting something done about this? I know my son can learn the math, he just needs more time and repetition. I know getting one on one time is about impossible, especially now that DODDS has had a huge budget cut (no field trips, sports getting cut, aides not getting paid, etc).

Just not really sure what specifically to ask for. Currently he is allowed to redo all homework and tests that is less than a 70. His scores are so inconsistent on hw (14 to 95) and his tests are less than 65. He is working at 110 %, I just really feel he needs out of this class, I am confused as to what the alternative is.

Please I need some guidance, help! Thanks y’all.
