I’m trying to gather good technology ideas that you may have tried with kids to help
them gain more independence in the area of organization. especially in elementary and middle school.
Areas I’m looking at are Lockers and Desks, multiple or lost papers, longer homework
assignments and projects, transitions between classes and transitions between activities
in class. Thanks for any input.

Re: organization strategies
My daughter’s OT at school is beginning a color coded system for folders and matching books by subject. My daughter’s in 4th grade and middle school is looming. One of the best ideas, let the child come up with the strategy and it will work better.
IF only I could have had these strategies growing up - I might have a neater house!
As I said in the previous post re: Desperatly need advice, I could probably answer to all of the posts.
I am in my 50’s and still trying each and every day to organize things. I am always buying and finding things that i feel are better. But one of the things that happen is that when I reprganize, I loose.
We need to have a permanent place for things. A change here and there is not bad but often is terrible.
In your situation it depends if you or your child has a visual problem. Things may need to be color coded. If papers were to be put into a file folder, 2 things happen.
1. He may not remember what is in the floder.
2. he is so frustrated that he will refuse to look.
therefore if he is able to look at a red folder and associate that with science, it just may work.
One other problem is that things do not go back where they belong. Labels are great. Color coded labels are even better.
Pencils will get lost by the dozens. books will be so called lost, only to find them on the school stairs or in the cafeteria. Sometimes they need to be in a pencil holder such as a can. Others find it easier to see them in a box. Whichever works is what you do. But it is not always the same with each child.
Containers to seperate things in the desk. Dividers. labels on them. Lables on the desk as to where the item goes. Box….pencils…erasers… papers…. then the organization becomes easier and in all means neater.
