Hi Everyone,
We have an appointment at the Stowell Learning Center in California Tomorrow for our ten-year-old son.
I was hoping that anyone with expereince with either this center, or the PACE program or the Master the Code program or the Samonas Sound Therapy program could give me some feedback.
Our son has been tested, retested, etc. Has has a 24-point spread betwen his verbal and nonverbal scores, with the nonverbal being his problem.
He is in a fifth grade Special Day Class for about two hours a day because he reads at a 1st grade level, and doesn’t write AT ALL except for his name. Math is a problem, attention, preservance, you name it.
His IQ is 127, and he is very intuitive and very bright.
Has anyone out there had any expereince with these programs, good or bad? I’d love to hear from you before we spend thousands more dollars trying to get the right help.
THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES!!!!!!!!

Has he been tested for specific learning disorders? This can sometimes direct what programs may be more helpful. I’m not familiar with any of the programs you’ve mentioned but my daughter, who has Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, CAPD (central auditory processing disorder), Sensory Integration Dysfunction and Irlen Syndrome has been through many different programs for her various difficulties. Some have worked partially, some haven’t helped at all. It has helped to know where the difficulty lies so that we can try to pick the programs most likely to help her.
Math issues were helped by using TouchMath. Reading was improved with recognition of Irlen Syndrome and getting special colored glasses. Reading further improved by using a text-to-speech program which highlighted the words to help with visual tracking issues and matching auditory information with visual. Writing has improved with keyboarding skills and word prediction. (She is currently using Kurzweil 3000 on a laptop in school.)
We’ve tried a lot of things over the years - Davis Dyslexia Program, Orton-Gillman, Wilson, 1:1 reading and math instruction, etc.
Don’t give up. Sometimes its difficult to figure out what is going to work for your child.
