I have a really some really big questions...

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

1. I am qualified to teach FMD only and I have my students collaborating in classrooms with regular education kids, LBD kids, and MMD kids. Is this okay legally even though I’m only qualified in FMD?

2. If a student for the entiretry of his life has been labeled FMD and the most recent evaluation since he has turned 18 says that he MMD, does he still get to walk that next year and get his certificate of attendance since that is what most of his high school year was built on. Or does the state actually expect this student to get 22 credit hours in one year so he can graduate with his peers. And if not, what are the alternatives, to keep him as MMD which means he will be 23 (maybe) before graduating and in most likelihood won’t graduate then? Could he walk next year simply because the FMD label prevented him from getting the education an MMD student would get?

That all depends on your state regulations. There may actually be no precedent for your situation so you may be able to make it up on the fly.

(And, of course, sometimes a school or district has simply had the practice of ignoring regulations for years. After all, what’s the penalty?)
