Hi -
I was wondering if anyone could recommend specific 3rd grade curricula, i.e. math, reading, spelling, grammar, science and language arts that seem to be especially effective in teaching kids with ADHD.
I have discovered that my 8-yr-old ADHD child LOVES a software program called Typing Instructor Deluxe, made by Individual Software Inc. She’s sailing right through it, learning how to type at a fast pace and can’t wait to do it every day! It’s a great CD and it was only $7! The program lets the user choose a type of music they’d like to listen to while doing their typing lesson. She LOVES this. They also have these really fun typing games they can play which are designed to increase their words per minute.
I was just thinking if I could find the same sort of thing for each of the key subject areas for 3rd grade, I’ll be set. She really seems to be responding to this and retaining the information, too.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Best Curricula for ADHD Kids
My son loves the new software we got from the vision therapist. It is designed to increase reading speed and I think it helps them to process faster. I really like it because it provides very concrete measurable results. My son likes to best himself and when he has something tangible as a measurement he performs better. It also tests for comprehension and has some eye exercises. It is really for a child who can decode already, it does not teach decoding.
It is called Vision Builder. Search google under vision builder reading.
It is only $40. One of the true bargains.
Anykids, even ADHD kids, would like this fun website. It almost takes a kid to figure out all the cool things this site can do.
I even had fun.
