My son is doing vision therapy. We have seen progress in copying and keeping place while reading. However, when he is having the testing done, his scores do not show much improvement. The Dr. believes it is due to difficulities with R.A.N. I tend to believe this to be the case because my child struggles with word finding and letter and number naming in various activities.
Does anyone have advice about remediating this deficit?
Re: Remediating Difficulties with Rapid Automatized Naming
Do you observe the rapid naming problem with colors? Naming colors does not require visual acuity. If he is slow with naming colors, then it could be a language retrieval issue and/or a generalized neurological problem. I think that educational psychologists have tests of rapid naming that include colors. That would be very helpful in terms of determining whether it is a vision issue or a neurological issue.
Have you noticed any retrieval problems with language? This would include difficulty coming up with the right word or correct grammatical structure.

My dd was severely impaired in RAN until she was dx’d with Irlen Syndrome. What was causing her issues was the trouble she had actually seeing the letters. With the proper color overlay she went from having a great deal of difficulty to having NO difficulty at all.
Just our experience.
