About six months ago, the center on my basketball team (who is special ed) made me laugh when she commented that she was “thinking outside the box.” Since then I’ve noticed on this forum that other people have used this phrase. I’m wondering if it is a common phrase in special ed circles and I didn’t know about it because I’m new to this. Can someone enlighten me?
That phrase is everywhere. :) Its used in business and education. The idea is that the “box” is what everyone else sees as standard, common, usual. Thinking outside the box is looking at things beyond what is usual, looking at it from a different way. I’ve had to do this with my dd because the “standard” way of helping her LDs didn’t work for her.
