homework

My daughter is in 5th grade, and homework had always been a battle for us until I set up a “homework schedule”. I don’t get home from work until 5 or 6, and homework doesn’t start until I get home. We have issues with dinner and t.v./play vs. homework time. I have found that 6:00 works for us. It is important to have the same planned time for homework. That way my daughter knows what’s expected at that time. Also, because of her LD she cannot concentrate for exended periods of time, so we learn in “chunks” as was recommended by person who evaluated her for CAPD. So, we start with the subject she dislikes most to get it out of the way. My daughter likes to have the same order of what subjects she will work on, starting with the one she dislikes the most to get it out of the way. Homework should be to reinforce what they learned that day. Some years I felt like I was re-teaching, we spent so much time on the homework. Their attention span can’t last more than an hour (but she has had teachers give her up to 3 hours of work). When she is tired, I have her stop, take a break and then go back to it. Could take 2 hours, but then this is 5th grade.

My son is 7th grade,and anly one subject last two hours.I go behind him after school to ask what he has for homework just praying he won’t have any.
