Behaviour modification

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son is ADHD (not well controlled) with Concerta and Strattera. He has a Language base LD and is in Grade 3 with an IEP allowing accomodations.Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas that work for behaviours. I have read and been told to use behaviour modification but am having difficulty implementing this. I have heard to pick one or 2 behaviours that you will not tolerate. Set up specific consequences and rewards. What are some things you have tried. What can you ignore? What don’t you tolerate? My understanding is because they hear negatives so often…you are to pick your battles carefully and ignore alot? School is an ongoing battle. I am at this time taking a 24 hour parent advocacy program that is really a benefit.

Any feedback?

Julie

I found a lot of good information at http://www.behavioradvisor.com/ There are a lot of different tips. There is also Ross Green’s approach - http://www.explosivechild.com/

If behavior mod doesn’t work, even with consistancy, you may want to get a more thorough evaluation to find out if it is more than ADHD and LD.
