NO Funds for Job placement

I would recommend going to your local library to borrow the book “Learning a living” by Dale S. Brown. There are a ton of helpful hints in the book for people with disabilities and there are lists of organizations that you can contact that may be able to help you.

It’s important to be proactive and persistent. I’m finding that no one will come to me for help, I have to go out and seek it myself. I would advise you to find out what your LD is, and how it impacts your job performance. Try to avoid certain jobs which may not be a good fit for you due to your area’s of weakness.

Remember, Government jobs require that you take a test. Make sure you prepare to get accommodated if you need to.

There are always jobs in Retailing. If you could start at the bottom of a good company like Costco and work your way up, it may be worth while to check it out.

Your story is the rule not the exception. We are looking for a hand up not a hand out.

Maybe we should ask for much more than we expect like a job that pays enough to buy a house. You know what I mean; something above the poverty wage.

We are marginalized by our elected officials. The VR organizations that are supposed to help disabled people are a sick joke. They are run and staffed by some very bad people. I have often siad that Satan’s advocation is collecting souls but is vocation is in social work.

I know how you feel i’ve been on a couple of interviews and i haven’t got any call backs. I guess maybe i have to be more agressive and call them back. I suggest going to department of rehabilitation. they’ll be able to help you.

Hey Chris, I know how it is. I just waited four years for my number to come up with DVR.

This is what I would do. When you have a disability there are tecnical schools which make online training available at no charge. I would call Goodwill Industries and inquire about their disability programs.

I would also go down to your local unemployment center and inquire about disability retraining. They have people who can assist you with what organization to contact. This should also be on their website.

You can also call your state agency that helps people with disabilities. There is help out there.
I’ve worked with these agencies and even though they are not the easiest to work with, they are well connected with employers.

I would do some investigation on all these fronts, I think you’ll be suprised on what you find.
