Hello, I am new to this forum. My youngest son of 4 has a diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome. We have participate in Early-On in MI since before he was 3 years old, preschool, developmental kindergarden, and tried kindergarden last year. He did not tolerate the classroom at all so I took him out of public school last year, and we
homeschooled kindergarden. It really went well, but I believe he is
still behind at least in K-math skills.
I was reading on the HSLDA site today that they recommend a child with
a known learning disability be evaluated by a special ed consultant at
least 4 times through the school year,to demonstrate how we are meeting
his needs and to show that he is progressing.
Does anyone here follow this recommendation and if you do where did you
find a consultant to evaulate your child, what do they charge and how
do they evaluate him?
My son was evaluated by the school district last year and found to be
AI impaired, though no specific learning disablilty was documented.
Thanks for any help :).

This doesn’t mean that your child needs a psychoeducational evaluation 4 times per year. To be honest, this would be extremely difficult to do because the same test can only be administered once per year due to “practice effects” (invalidates the child’s scores). Instead, I think they might have been referring to collecting benchmark scores or even administering and graphing academic probes to track the student’s progress. Another alternative is to collect performance data pertaining to the child’s IEP goals, which is done in most states several times throughout the school year.
Students in Ohio in private school can be evaluated by the district in which the private school is located. In some other states, it is by their home district. Talk to your local school district to see who is mandated to do evaluations, maybe? Mind you, in Ohio, they are only mandated every three years, but local school districts do IEP reviews yearly, so this might help.
