Curriculum for LD, dyslexic, NVLD????

I use Math-U-See, and have found it very strong and user-friendly. As the parent, you will have to put some effort into it (previewing the video/DVD, reading the lesson in the TM before presenting it to your daughter); a lot depends on how well your daughter works independently. I would strongly recommend it. If you need more information, their web site is www.mathusee.com, and from there you can join a Yahoo! group on MUS; many parents there use it with their children who have various disabilities, some much more severe than your daughters. Many folks have posted asking questions about its effectiveness with children with disabilities, and the response has been overwhelming in favor of it.

For the assessment part, maybe use DIBBLEs You can find it for no cost at http://interventioncentral.com/htmdocs/interventions/cbmwarehouse.php though you will need to register at the site that this page links to in order to download. Other probes are available there and the main pages of that site has some quick interventions.

Sue, Seeing Stars is not a complete decoding program, so please be sure you explore that area a little more. I am trained in all the LMB programs, but I actually use something called ABeCeDarian (www.abcdrp.com) because it has more structured sequential lessons and is easier to go by than LiPS. (It also has a placement test on the site.) Then I later supplement with some Seeing Stars to build automaticity once I have taught the basic decoding skills.

Thank you for this insight. My daughter was test at a LMB center and they recommended that she use Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing and On Cloud 9. I have all of these kits and will get trained in Seeing Stars in Oct., paid for by the ps system. If there’s any insight you can give me as to the best approach I’d greatly appreciate it. Also so you know my daughter has has some dyslexic programs for reading, but mostly in a group setting of about 6 children. She has has 2 1/2 yrs. of OG which she completed except the green book, some Alphabetic Phonics and now she’s using Take Flight. All of these are OG type products. So far reading achievement tests are anywhere from K.9 to 2.7 depending on the skill. The concern is my daughter is fading in her desire to read, so I really need to find and use something that’s successful for her ASAP.
