History or Science Program ideas

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Has anyone found a history or science program that works well with LD’s at home??? This should be a program that reads to the student, but has the option to be read. Also should be a fairly independent program except for science “experiements”.

Thanks,
Sue

I don’t really see that this kind of instruction is good for any LD child. I think unit studies where there are field trips, experiments, projects, videos, etc. are the best way to teach science and social studies to a child with LD. A self study course is most appropriate for a child who is a typical learner and very self-motivated and enjoys book learning.

Janis,
I want a curriculum that will read the material because my daughter struggles with reading. She can do grade level science and history except for the reading. I plan on doing experiments, including Moody videos and arts/crafts for history. I agree that a program should include hands on things. But I’d prefer not having to read the textbooks to my daughter.

Thank You for your insight,
Sue
