I have an 8 yr. old who has A.D.D. and difficulty reading. Does anyone have any teaching methods, tips or strategies for me. Thank you
A.D.D. and difficulty reading
Yes, it is just A.D.D. but he has difficulty reading wondering if anyone has any teaching methods or techniques they can offer.
A.D.D. and difficulty reading
What kind of reading issue is he having? Difficulty tracking? Sounding things out?
Re: A.D.D. and difficulty reading
As I said on another thread, I’ve been tutoring a 7th grader with ADD who has been reading at a 5th grade level.
I used the Phono-graphix program to diagnose him- I discovered that he didn’t know the sounds of the vowels.
I don’t know how he had an IEP for 7 years and no one discovered that.
After about 3-4 sessions, last time, he finally got the different vowel sounds - got them all right!
Hopefully this will continue.
I’ll keep this forum apprised of how he does.
So far I’m impressed. This is my first time using PHono-graphix, altho I was trained in it years ago.
You can check the website - readamerica.net and get info. They have a book and method that parents can use without any special training.

A.D.D. and difficulty reading
Just want to mention that I was also trained in Phono-Graphix, but I now recommend AbeCeDarian. It has sequential, scripted lessons which makes it much easier for a parent or teacher to use without training. It also has components that the other does not, such as automatic word recognition and fluency.
I am a teacher and tutor and do not profit from this program, by the way!

Yes, make sure that the reading difficulty is because of the ADD and not some other LD that can be hidden by the ADD.
