Teacher problems, advice wanted

What do you do when you have a teacher who wants you to read their mind? I have one who assumes we can all smell the extra stuff they want that they did not put in the instructions. If you don’t read their mind, you will, of course, get a bad grade.

I been there, you just do the best you can. Did you ever meet with a school cousnler for disabilites. You would got a paper with your IEP you should of taken to her and she/he helps with acomidations. If you have problems talk with them.

Hi,

Yes, I met with the person who writes up the accomondations sheets in the college, when I got the accomodations. He used my eval to write them up.

I am told by another student that the teacher in question is, to say the least, not LD friendly. Which, imo, is wrong.

BTW, I am of the opinion that good teaching is good teaching. And some folks just aren’t good at teaching, unfortunately.

I will let you know if I survive.

If you have talked to the professor. Make an appointment with the department head and see if they can give you some ideas to correct the situation. Or maybe the department head could mentor you by looking at your work before you turn it in.

I actually do not believe that your question is learning disabled specific, but one that EVERY college student goes through.

I definitely had this situation with K-12 and university instructors. You always get the lazy teacher who expects you to know exactly what they are looking for with just the bare minimum of instructions. Some of them will gladly help you if you ask them questions regarding the assignment during their office hours.

Does YOUR instructor know that you are LD? If not meet with him during his office hours and state that you have a learning disability and that you require further instructions/information on the assignment. Ask him if he has any past papers etc on file that you can review and use as an example. If you have not asked for accommodations (extended time on papers or tests)from this instructor before and do not plan to then flat out tell the instructor that you are only seeking information to guide you on the assignment and that you are not asking for further time to be allotted to you for it.
