Hi there, just wanted to voice an opinion here. Seem that my grandson is in full blown special education classroom. He is in a 4th, 5th and 6th grade class. He has learning disabilities but he is doing great. He tries in everything he does. He can write, read at about 2 or 3rd grade level, he can do math and etc. I think the school should have a class for kids that are really trying, his class has 3 other 4th grade kids that are out of control. All that happens during the day is the teachers have to fuss with the other 3 kids on a minute by minute basis. When you are in this special education class all they do is try and keep the kids in control which is very hard. They all have so many problems. If you mainstream them with an aid I don’t think it is enough, but then I don’t think special education is it either, maybe inbetween. Any sugguestions, besides home schooling.
Re: Is there any "INBETWEEN" Special Education Class
That’s exactly what I am trying to find out. One school district in our area has classes for kids who are just on the edge of SDC. The put them in these classes, then remediate them and get them back into the regular classes. But one person I know went and observed and said you could hardly tell that these kids had any problems. But they still had the benefit of the smaller class with 1 special ed teacher and 2 aides.
My dd primarily has a language disorder. I would like to find a special ed class for kids who all have language disorders. Seems like then they could all focus on language. I’m not sure such a classroom exists.

I think each school may be different but you could ask at his case conference (or ask for one) about the services. My daughter is in a regular K class for most of the day, has some help with an aide for reading and then goes to the specials area for an hour and half to help her more. It seems to be working for her and she doesn’t feel out of place or different from the other kids.
