Hello,Just had a stressfull IEP this morning. We decided on placement but will meet again to write up the IEP. They are balking or giving us the run around regarding using a multi-sensory approach. The Spec Director kept saying it was the teacher’s choice as to methodology …Testing shows lots of regression in all academic areas - with the most difficulty in short-term memory. He will be placed in a self-contained classroom - so that will help with a lot of the auditory processing/distraction issues but we now need to have some really specific Goals and Objectives. I figure they may balk at a specific method but if the G & Os are based on multi-sensory stuff than we can get them to cooperate that way.Does anyone know of a web site or book that lists IEP goals and objectives that we could use as a reference? Or does anybody have a sample IEP with multi-sensory/O-G goals/objectives?Thanks,Pam (SC)

: clue about teaching them. Thanks Sue,These are really helpful!!! Thanks!!!!The teacher might not have a clue about teaching them - but then when the goals and objectives are not met we can show that the teaching/program is not appropriate - which is the goal we are headed for in our son’s case. The school is really dragging its heels on providing the appropriate remediation and we are going to beat them at their own game!!!Do I sound all fired up? I am!!! We had a very stressful placement meeting yesterday and I am tired of the 2 years of my son’s life they have already wasted - we are not messing around any more!Sorry, just had to vent. I thank you for your response - the information will be helpful.Pam (SC)

That’s why I left that other stuff in — thought it might also be useful at some point.

Re: Need help with specific IEP G&O with readi
: HI Ellen, Where in Va do you live. I teach in Fairfax county and we have just received new forms. Why oh why in the middle of the year??? I have been in Fairfax for the past two years and were told specifically not to write goals concerning the SOLs. We have to write goals toward the deficiencies of the student. This, of course will include satisfying the SOLs. Although there isn’t an SOL for basic decoding skills. I am doing an IEP using the forms now and the student was justified for services due to a writing deficiency. I can only write writing goals and an organization one and no others. The student has some behavior problems but the only reason for that is because he is in with all students that have them. I do know that when writing goals, you can’t cover all of the individual subjects, only those which he qualifies for. You also can’t use standarized tests unless you get the approval of the parents. These tests usually can’t be used more than twice a year. We use informal testing for data on meating the objectives.
