Hi my name is Rania, I am cerently a massage student. I also have a learning disability. I wanted to no if there were any massage therapists who have a learning disability? I am asking because I have had people tell me that they were conserened about me being sucessiful in becoming a massage therapist because of my learning disability. I no I can do it if I put my mind to it but I also no that my learning disability causes some challenges for me to face. If there are massage therapists who have learning disabilities I would love to talk to you about the challenges you have had to face and how you over came your challenges.
Rania,
are there massage therapists who have learning disabilities?
Learn the massage techniques. The more you do it the better you will get at it.
Re: are there massage therapists who have learning disabilities
I am a psychologist with LD and I think we might have similar challenges. Billing and paperwork is not that fun, but with the right accommodations these things can be a minor part of your life and not make your life too difficult. Since massage therapists do not have to deal with insurance forms, I think you are even better off :-).
There is no reason you cannot be a successful massage therapist. Spelling, for example, is not a requirement :-) How are you at memorizing muscle names? Have you taken your intro to massage therapy class? If so, how did you do in it?
LDs run in different flavors, so to speak, so having an LD does not mean there are specific careers that all people with LDs should not do. It does mean that you have to play to your strengths, however.
