I am curious to learn if anyone has used the Whisperphones for reading practice, independent reading, or other uses. I am interested in the application for students who comprehend much better when they hear the material as opposed to simply reading it to themselves.

Interesting that this would come up because I do a fluency group in my daughter’s class and her teacher showed me a phonic phone. The children read Repetitive Automatic Practice sheets and when they want to read faster they think they have to read louder. I am excited about using the phones so they can hear themselves and understand that faster is not louder.

Yes! “Whisperphones” or “phonics phones” are a terrific tool for helping students hear their own reading and/or sounds. This idea is like standing in front of the mirror and practicing communication skills i.e. expressions. This is the best way to develop ones personality. Whisperphones working resembles the working of mirror, you can hear your own voice, you can know “how do you speak?” and can develop yourself on your own feedback.
